Overwatch Squad is on Hiatus

aaa

It is with a heavy heart that today we're announcing that our Overwatch team will be going on a hiatus for the near future, meaning that we will be dropping out of Season 2 of the Overwatch Open Division.

Despite being one of the few games specifically designed for competitive gaming, Overwatch is not an easy game to maintain a team for. Whilst tactically comparable to MOBA titles such as League of Legends and Dota 2, Overwatch does not have the same strategic depth of these other games, lacking items, as well as having a shallow hero pool, as players are required to focus on mechanical skill, and teamplay. What this means is that the competitive meta often gets stale, and players get burnt out. This is the unfortunate stumbling block that our team has encountered.

Our DPS player  Vinnie, our Main Tank  Rashid as well as our Support player  Nates have decided to stop actively competing in Overwatch to pursue other endeavours. Rashid will remain with the organisation as a streamer. The situation became all the more complicated as it is currently exam season, and a few of our remaining players also are required to prioritise their education, albeit disrupted with the current pandemic. For these reasons, we've decided to stop actively competing, and give our staff,  Gann and  Cinzya, as well as the rest of the players sufficient breathing room in order to take all the necessary time to rebuild the team.

Despite the fact that our journey with this team has not been long, the manner in which they've integrated into the organisation means that they will always be part of our family. We're incredibly proud that in just a few months, the team managed an excellent placement in Season 1 of the 2020 Open Division, coming in at 34th, with 9 wins and 3 losses. In Season 2, the team was already on 4 wins and 0 losses, standing in 5th place out of over 400 EU teams. All of our players have proven their worth, and they deserve our support in whatever comes their way.

Stay tuned for news on our Overwatch team in the coming weeks and months, and in the meantime, make sure to support the players in our other game divisions!
