EVERSIO's Top 10 Most Anticipated Video-Games for 2017

aaa

We're excited about a few video-games coming to our screens in the next few months (or years!). Here's our top ten list!

Number 10: Spider-Man

Release Date: N/A

We have fond memories of the Spider-Man games on the original PlayStation, so when we started reading about Marvel's increased focus on video-games, and that the Spiderman IP was given to Insomniac Games (developers of the acclaimed Resistance franchise, Spyro and Ratchet & Clank), we got interested. Then we watched the trailer, and now we can't wait to get web-slinging across the New York skyline. The action-packed trailer shows a GTA-esque open world, and Spidey seems to have a ton of cool moves. We hope we'll be able to meet our favourite villains from the comics and cartoons of our childhood! The game will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Number 9: Prey

Release Date: 5th May 2017

The original Prey, released in 2006 by Human Head Studios, was a very refreshing take on the otherwise stale first person shooter genre, introducing mechanics such as portals and gravity to alter the environment. After Bethesda acquired the intellectual property, the planned sequel was never launched, until this year's reboot by Arkane Studios. Unlike the original game, Prey will have role-playing elements and a story-telling focus, and is designed as a spiritual successor to System Shock (the other spiritual successors to System Shock, are BioShock and Deus Ex). The game will be set in an open-world environment, and the outcome of the game will change depending on player behaviour.

Number 8: God of War

Release Date: N/A

A true PlayStation classic that will get yet another sequel. Santa Monica Studio are developing the 8th instalment in the third person adventure/hack and slash game, but this time, with a twist. Whilst the original God of War games revolved around Greek mythology, the new iteration will take the player to Norse mythology, playing an ageing Kratos as he mentors his son, Atreus. The reason for the shift is reportedly that there are literally no more Greek gods for Kratos to kill. God of War games are known to be brutal AF. Crushing skulls, bursting eye balls, and cracking rib cages? We're game.

Number 7: Cyberpunk 2077

Release Date: N/A

Cyberpunk 2077 is a new IP from Polish game developer CD Projekt RED – the same developers behind The Witcher series. We don't know much about the game, except that it will be a first person or a third person shooter based in the future. However, we're extremely confident in CD Projekt's pedigree after the consistently impressive Witcher games.

Number 6: The Last of Us Part II

Release Date: N/A

A sequel to Naughty Dog's highly acclaimed 2013 PlayStation 3 title, The Last of Us. This apocalyptic survival horror game had us on our toes, and is regarded one of the best NewGen releases. The original game had excellent story-telling, character development and third person combat, and wherein you controlled Joel as he escorted the teenage Ellie across the American wasteland. The sequel, which takes place five years down the line, will have players controlling Ellie herself.

Number 5: Red Dead Redemption 2

Release Date: Q3/Q4 2017

This is actually the third entry in the Red Dead series, and is the western equivalent of Grand Theft Auto, and developed by the same Rockstar Games. Red Dead Redemption proved to be one of the best games on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010: a massive open world, great story-telling and gameplay. It still is one of the only western games to really work, so we're really looking forward to tumble weeds, wagons and quick-draws. We're also dying of curiosity to know what the hell is going to happen with John Marston.

Number 4: Death Stranding

Release Date: N/A

Legendary video-game director Hideo Kojima, the brains behind the Metal Gear series will be unbridled by the bureaucracy of Konami in releasing this original title for the PlayStation 4.We don't know a whole lot about the game, but it seems to be set during some form of post-apocalyptic war. Kojima has enlisted digital versions of acclaimed actors Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead, The Boondock Saints), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Star Wars: Rogue One) as well as film director Guillermo del Toro. Whatever it is, if Kojima is involved, it's going to be something memorable.

Number 3: Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy

Release Date: 30th June 2017

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you: a remake for one of the all-time classics on PlayStation. Nostalgia much? Crash Bandicoot was originally released in 1996 by Naughty Dog (now also famous for other massive hits: the Uncharted series, and The Last of Us), the remake will also include the sequels, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped, released in 1997 and 1998 respectively. Who ISN'T waiting for this platformer?

Number 2: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Release Date: 21st March 2017

The fourth iteration of Bioware's 'space opera' is just around the corner, and we cannot contain our excitement. The original Mass Effect trilogy had one of the best sci-fi universes ever designed, great 3rd person combat and flawless execution in terms of music, graphics, and voice-acting (they had Martin Sheen of Apocalypse Now fame voicing one of the main villains!) . However the cherry on the cake was the story-telling and character development. The characters were so well-designed that you ended up trying uncover more about their background, to the extent that you truly ended up caring for them. Although Bioware had huge changes in direction over the past few years, we're still very much hoping for a similarly entrancing experience this time round. PS: Natalie Dormer is voice-acting.

Number 1: Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Release Date: N/A

Final Fantasy 7 is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most influential video-games of all time. Released in 1997 on the original PlayStation, the JRPG (Japanese Role-Playing Game) set a new standard for games and was especially known for an unprecedented quality in graphics, storyline and music for a video-game. Twenty years later, and Square Enix is developing a remake for the PlayStation 4 using Epic Games' acclaimed Unreal Engine 4. The story for the original game will be released across 3 games now, however we still have no specific release date. Until then, we're dying to play as Cloud Strife again.
